التطور النقدى يمثل أحد ميادين الاستجابة الإنسانية للتحديات حيث تطورت النظم النقدية من سلعية إلى ائتمانية، أى من نقود تمثل قيمتها السلعية جزءاً من قيمتها النقدية إلى نقود لا تمثل قيمتها السلعية أهمية في تحديد قيمتها النقدية سواء كانت أوراقاً نقدية تصدرها البنوك المركزية أو حسابات جارية في دفاتر بنك تجارى، ولهذا كان هدف هذا الكتاب، وهو "اقتصاديات النقود" للمفكر الاقتصادي البريطاني "أ. س. ل. د ا ي" تحليل المفاهيم والأساليب العلمية في معرفة النظم النقدية. والمفكر الشهير الذي ذاع صيته في النصف الأول من القرن العشرين، يقسم كتابه إلى ثلاثة عشر فصلا، تتناول بالدراسة كل الجوانب المتعلقة بالنقود باعتبارها أحد أهم الموضوعات التي يهتم بها علم الاقتصاد. إن دراسة موضوع النقود من الدراسات الاقتصادية الأساسية والهامة لارتباطها وتأثيرها بكثير من المشكلات الاقتصادية وانعكاس لأهم النشاطات الاقتصادية والمظاهر الاجتماعية
