تجمع لفيف السابلة وكأنما الشمس قذفتهم مع شعاعها ، آتون كما الومض البارق . أفزعتهم أصواتها التي شقت السكون ، فإصطفوا ينظرون الى مايجري تحتهم بوجل. سارت أمل والدموع تكسو وجنتيها ، وأعينهم تراقب خطاها ومات السؤال في خاطرهم، يجدون في سكاتهم تعزية وسلوى . هي أصلاً جمالها ملحوظا لايستطيع المرء أن يرد عينه منه بسهولة ، اينما سارت ككرة المغناطيس تجذب نحوها الرؤوس في اتجاه واحد . نفض ودالعمدة عن رأسه كل الأفكار التي تجمَّعت كجيوش زاحفة من النمل، أحسَّ وكأن قواه تخور ،هذا الضجيج يعتمل حيز بداخله ،وتداعت الى الذاكرة أشياء حتى صار يذم شفتيه وهو يذوب أسفا! بدأ يغرق في همومه من جديد ، لم تستطعْ كلُّ خيوط النهار أن تبدد من حوله سواد الليل ، يمسك بين أهداب عينه دمعة مترقرقة ما تكاد تتماسك . بأصابع مبتسمه وسكون في نفسه يشبه سكون الدمع المعلق في محجر العين فتح صفحات مذكراته وآض يقرأ عن زمن عاشه.
