In December 1922 the General electric company established the Charles A. Coffin foundation, the income available for rewarding service in the electrical field, for research work, etc. The company invited the American electric railway associaton to assist in carrying out its plans and the association accordingly, early in 1923, appointed the Charles A. Coffin prize committee. The present publications are a digest of the briefs submitted by the various
companies competing for the prize, published under the auspices of the American electric railway association and financed by the Charles A. Coffin foundation.
