ان وضع مادة الرسم ضمن مواد الدراسة المختلفة له ما يبرره ، بل هناك من الأسباب ما يدعو إلى العناية بالرسم عناية بالغة ومن الفوائد المادية والتهذيبية ما يجعل تعليمه أمراً لازماً وضرورياً. وليس الغرض أن يقتصر المعلم على تدريب التلاميذ على عمل الرسوم والصور الفنية فقط ، بل ينبغي أيضاً أن يكون أمر تهذيب الملكات المختلفة في عقولهم وإنشائهم نشأة فنية صحيحة من أهم أغراضه ومقاصده. فقوة الملاحظة عند الطلاب تتقدم وتتهذب بتمرينهم على رسم ما يختار من بين الأشياء الطبيعية والمصنوعة، لأن دراستهم لهذه الأشياء ومقارنتهم لنسب الأبعاد فيها والعمل على جعل رسوماتهم مطابقة من حيث الهيئة والتكوين واللون والظل والنور وغير ذلك مما يستلزم حصر الذهن وإمعان النظر كل ذلك كفيل بعد التمرين الطويل والتدريب المنظم بالوصول في النهاية إلى تقدم ملكة الملاحظة وتهذيبها وتربيتها تربية صحيحة.
