أبوركوة هو الوليد بن هشام وهو من نسل عبد الملك بن مروان، أمير أموي نشأ بقرطبة ولكن سطوة الحاكم دفعته للفرار إلى مصر، وسمي أبي ركوة لأنه كان يحمل ركوة ماء للوضوء على عادة أهل التصوف، نتيجة لظلم الحاكم بأمر الله في مصر اجتمع أبو ركوة معبعض القبائل ونظم جيشًا للتمرد والثورة وكاد أن ينتصر ولكن نتيجة للخيانة في بعض أفراد الجيش توالت عليه الهزائم حتى قبض عليه وتوفي في الطريق وتم قطع رأسه وصلبه كعبرة للشعب والثوار، انعكس العنوان على معظم قصص المجموعة القصصية، ومن خلاله استطعنا التعرف على الخط الرئيسي لمضمون القصص، الثورة على الأوضاع الاجتماعية والسياسية المحلية والعالمية، الهزيمة التي تلحق بنا ليس عن ضعف إنما عن خيانة،وعلى مر التاريخ نجد أن الهزيمة غالبًا ما تتسلل من باب الخيانة.
