لو حدث ومتُّ في هذه الحرب، لو حدث وكنتِ ما زلتِ تحبينني بعد الحرب، لو حدث وفكرّتي أن ترينني ثانية، فتعالى إلى قريتي، ستجدينني بين النخيل.
كنتُ في تلك الليالي التي اشتاقكِ فيها جداً، أهيم بين البيوتن حتى ينبهني إدريس المؤذن.
حينما كان ينتهي من إبتهالاته في الثلث الأول من الليل، تتوقف السماء، تلتفظ أنفاسها من ضجيج الصراخ، فتغطّ القرية في صمتٍ كامل كجثة أبي ذرٍ المنفية.
آنذاك فقط، كان بإمكان الرأس المتعب من ثقل اللاأدريات أن يسقط على المخدة، كسقوط رأسٍ نخلة بقذيفة... ويستريح.
قبل قليل وأثناء سقوط رأسي – بقذيفة النعاس العنيد – على جثث الرفاق الذين قنصهم القنّاص المتربص بي كالنسر، رأيت أمّي ترجع من الحقل بعش بلبل لم يغط الريش لحمه بعد – اسميته يوسف لاحقاً – تركه أخوته لجيب أمي كي تفاجئني به، ورأيت أبي يصعد نحو السماء، وهو غاضب على طريقة الله في الإدارة، ورأيت قوافل الفلاحين الموتى الذين أعرفهم وهم في حقولهم ينتظرون طبق الخبز والزبد والتمر، تحمله نسائهم بغنج مفضوح.
الفلاحون لا يرحلون يا جنان، وأنني حين أموت، سأمكث للأبد بين نخيل القرية.
