ما كان للعربية أن يصير لها شأن أو أن تنجو آثار تداخل الثقافات ما بقيت لولا أن منَّ الله على الناس بقرآنه. كان القرآن آية الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم على نبوته ـ ولكل نبي آية ـ إلا أن القرآن لم يشبه أيًا من آيات الرسل من قبله، فكلها كانت من جنس ما لا يقدر البشر على قليله أو كثيره، أُبلِس الناس حين رآوها، أما القرآن فهو من جنس ما قد حذقه كل العرب وتمكنوا منه، فقد كان زمانهم أبلغ أزمنة العربية، وإنما تعلم الفصاحة بكلامهم، إلا أن القرآن أَعْجَزَهُم، فقد علموا أن ليس لأحد أن يأتي بمثل نظم القرآن، فلما ادعوا على النبي صلى الله وعليه وسلم أنه افترى هذا القرآن على الله، رد الله عليهم "أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ ۖ قُلْ فَأْتُوا بِعَشْرِ سُوَرٍ مِّثْلِهِ مُفْتَرَيَاتٍ وَادْعُوا مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتُم مِّن دُونِ اللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ" (هود - ١٣)، أي فلتأتوا بعشر سور مفتريات كما ادعيتم على القرآن، على نظم كنظم القرآن وبلاغته. وقد علمت العرب أن ليس بمقدورهم أن يبلغوا هذا المقدار، فهنا كان عجزهم،
ومنه كان قول (( الوليد من المغيرة))، بعد أن أتى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم
"فو الله ما فيكم من رجل أعلم بالأشعار مني ولا أعلم برجزه ولا بقصيده ولا بأشعار الجن مني، والله ما يشبه الذي يقول شيئًا من هذا، والله إن لقوله الذي يقول حلاوة وإن عليه لطلاوة وإنه لمثمر أعلاه مغدق أسفله وإنه ليعلو وما يُعلَى، وإنه ليحطم ما تحته".
