يجمع هذا الكتاب ما تم نقاشه وطرحه في مؤتمر قضايا تعليم ونشر ثقافة حقوق الإنسان: جدول أعمال للقرن الحادي والعشرين والذي عقد في القاهرة عام 2000 م، وجاء ذلك بدعوة من مركز القاهرة لدراسات حقوق الإنسان وبالتنسيق مع مكتب المفوضية السامية للأمم المتحدة لحقوق الإنسان والشبكة الأورومتوسطية لحقوق الإنسان، وشارك في هذا المؤتمر نحو مائة من الخبراء والأكاديميين والمفكرين والمدافعين عن حقوق الإنسان من 40 منظمة ومركز لحقوق الإنسان في 14 دولة عربية، وذلك لمناقشة قضايا حقوق الإنسان ونشر الوعي فيما يخص هذه الحقوق والتنسيق ووضع رؤية عامة للقرن الحادي والعشرين، وتميز هذا المؤتمر بأنه حوى العديد من الآراء وتم طرح العديد من الأوراق البحثية والأفكار الهامة بخصوص موضوع حقوق الإنسان، ويجمع لنا هذا الكتاب كل ما دار في هذا المؤتمر الهام .
