تم العثور على جثة السناتور أوجو ماني ، وهو طبيب وسناتور ناجح ، مقتولًا في مكتبة صغيرة لبيع الكتب الأثرية. و يقوم المفتش دي فينتشنزي الحاذق الماهر ، بالتحقيق في مع سيدات جميلات ، بين الأماكن الخارجية ذات الرفاهية ومنازل الفقراء في عالم من البوابين والعامة. فقد كان دائما يؤمن بالحدس و الحاسة السادسة اكثر من القرائن والبراهين. إنها طريقة للحركة والتفكير للمفتش دي فينتشنزي ،و هذه هى الرواية الثانية ل أوجوستو دي أنجيليس بعنوان ست نساء وكتاب، والتى نشرت بتاريخ 1936 ، في اطار سلسلة بوليسية كبيرة فقد كان شاعر و كاتبً وسياسى متشككاً. واعتبر من الهراطقة في ذلك الوقت (مثل مغامرات أوسكار وايلد غير المرغوب فيه ، وفي احيان اخرى مثل فرويد ) و دي أنجيليس يعتبر المصدر الأصلي للإثارة الإيطالية و الست نساء هى عنوان الرواية و هم أولئك الذين حاصروا البروفيسور أوجو ماني ، الطبيب الناجح ، و السيناتور ، والذى عثرعليه مقتولا في مبنى مكتبة صغيرة. و كان هناك ايضا كتاب مفقود مع ذكر أديرة مكرسة للروحانيات وهواجس غريبة و العثور على أدوات جراحية تم تسليمها إلى مركز الشرطة مع معطف أبيض. و يقوم المفتش دي فينتشنزي بطل رواياته بالتحقيق لاكتشاف مرتكب الجريمة في جو من الاثارة والتشويق.
