المطالع لهذه الرسالة العلمية يدرك أنها إضافة مهمة لجملة البحوث والدراسات التي أفردت للحديث عن ترتيب نزول القرآن والمكي والمدني، كما أنها تلقي الضوء على جانب من جهود العلماء في التصنيف في القرن الثامن الهجري، وعلى إسهامات العلامة الديريني وتنوع ثقافته وثرائها.
وقد بلغ عدد أبيات هذه المنظومة(44) بيتاً، و تظهر قيمة هذه الرسالة -على قصرها- في أن العلامة السيوطي ذكرها ضمن المؤلفات التي تناولت قضايا المكي والمدني وترتيب النزول في القرآن الكريم، ويظهر من خلال المطالعة السريعة لها أن الشيخ يعالج فيها أربع قضايا:
القضية الأولى: السور المكية التي نزلت بمكة وترتيبها.
القضية الثانية: السور المدنية التي نزلت بالمدينة وترتيبها.
القضية الثالثة: السور التي وقع الخلاف فيها بين العلماء وهل هي مكية أو مدنية.
القضية الرابعة: الآيات المدنية في السور المكية، والآيات المكية في السور المدنية.
وقد قدم الشيخ بين يدي حديثه بأمرين: الأول أن هذا الذي سيذكره فيما سيأتي نقله مِنْ كُتُبِ مَنْ سبقه من العلماء الذين عرفوا بالبحث في هذا المجال، وذلك ما يفيده قوله: (فهاك نَقْلَ الكُتْبِ فيما شُهِرَا).
الأمر الثاني: أن هذا أمر اجتهادي ولا يقطع فيه برأي؛ لأنه لم ينقل فيه خبر يعتمد عليه، وذلك ما يفيده قوله: (نقلاً من الترتيب حين حُزِرَا).
