في كتابه "التفكير المرئي Visual Thinking, Rudolf Amheim - رودولف أمهايم"، أشارَ إلى مبدأ الإهتمام الذي يمثلهُ الإرتباط الأساسي بين الفيلم والحُلم والذي يُصبح واضحًا بمجرد رؤيتهِ، أما فيما يتعلق بآلية عمَل الحلم، من ناحية عِلم النفس، فرويد على سبيل المثال، ولسبب أنه ناقشَ أغلب أطوار الأحلام: يطرح فرويد السؤال الأشهَر حولَ "كيف يُمكن أن تكونَ الروابط المنطقية المهمة للتفكير، مُمَثلة بالصور"، ويضيف قائلاً، في أغلب كتبه التي تتناولُ مسألة القضية الحُلمية، أنَ هناك مُشكلة مماثِلة في الفنون البصرية، هناكَ بالفعل أوجه تشابُه بين صور الأحلام وتلكَ التي تم إنشاؤها في الفن السينمائي أو الرسم من ناحيةٍ أُولى، والصور الذهنية التي تعملُ كوسيلة للفكر من ناحيةٍ أخرى، ولكن من خلال ملاحظة التشابه، يصبح المرء أيضًا مدرِكاً للإختلافات، ويُمكن أن تساعد هذهِ الاختلافات في وصف الصور الفكرية بشكلٍ أكثر دقة.
