هذا الكتاب من أصول ما كُتب في أنساب الطالبيـين، وهو أول كتاب لطالبي يصنِّـف في أنساب الطالبيـين، ومؤلفه من أئمة التاريخ والأدب والأخبار من أهل القرن الثالث، وقد خصّه بالمعْقِبين من ولد علي وجعفر وعَقِيل رضوان الله عليهم، ثم ذكر في آخره فصولاً في وقائع مختلفة لمقاتل الطالبيـين، ومنهم قتلى كربلاء، وزيد بن علي وابنه يحيى، ومن مات منهم مسجوناً أو مسموماً، في عهود الخلفاء، كأبي جعفر المنصور وهارون الرشيد والمأمون. كما عرض لبعض أحداث الطالبية في التاريخ، مما تجد تفصيله في طيّات هذا الكتاب. وقد قام المحقق بعمل دراسة جعلها في بابين، الأول: في أنساب الطالبية في القرن الثالث الهجري، وعرّج فيه على منازلهم وديارهم وأحوالهم ومن صنف منهم في أنسابهم. والباب الثاني: جعله في ترجمة المصنف ودراسة مؤلفاته. وهذا الجهد لبنة أولى في تحقيق أنساب الطالبية ينتظر التـتميم بلبنات أخرى، وهو يقدِّم للقرّاء أصلاً مفيداً لمعرفة الأنساب الطالبية.
