يجلس على كرسيه في وجوم وتفكير؛ ينظر في وجوه هؤلاء الأصحاب الذي هو منهم وإليهم؛ كأنما ناداهم القدر من عليائه بصوته المدوي الرهيب: اهبطوا فيها ملعونين؛ حيث حللتم تتبعكم اللعنة، تشقون فيها أنتم إلى الأبد!
ثم ختم القدر على تلك اللعنة فلا أمل في رفعها أبدًا!
وكيف لا يشقون إلى الأبد وهم قد صارت أرواحهم مسوخًا؟! تتردد في الريب والعذاب! لا إلى هؤلاء ولا إلى هؤلاء!
إلى «هناك»: تهتف بهم العودة فيرعبهم غموض كالح وليل بهيم لا يدري المرء فيه مَن بجواره! ويستبد بهم الشوق فيكبتهم خوف من الفاقة والعوز في استقبالهم!
وحيث «هنا»: بيوت غير التي سكنوها وسكنتهم، بيوت لا يستطيعون أن يكونوا فيها أنفسهم، وهل يكون البيت بيتًا إلا إذا استطعت أن تكون فيه نفسك بعد طول تمثيل وافتعال؟! أن تكون فيه على حقيقتك لدقائق تفعل فيها ما تريد أنت لا ما يريده منك الناس؟!
