هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا من تأليف علّامة محقق مدقق، وهو الإمام محيي الدين الكافيجي، الذي قال فيه الحافظ السيوطي: «لزمته أربع عشرة سنة، فما جئت من مرة إلا وسمعت منه من التحقيقات والعجائب ما لم أسمعه قبل ذلك».
وقد تجاوز هذا الكتاب عنوانه، فلم يقتصر على بيان شرف أهل البيت النبوي رضيَ الله عنهم، بل تعدّاه إلى بيان حقوق النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ومعجزاته، ومعرفة زوجاته رضيَ الله عنهن، وذكر فضائل الصحابة والتابعين، والفقهاء الأربعة، والصُّلَحاء من الزهّاد والصُّوفية وغيرهم، وفضل الكعبة ومكة والمدينة. ثم ذَكَرَ ما يتعلق بالسلاطين والملوك، ومن الطريف أنه ختم الكتاب بخاتمة عن آداب الأكل! لأن الطاعات لا تقوم إلا بسلامة البدن، وسلامته في حسن التقوّت! والكتاب بعد ذلك مشحون بالآثار والنقول عن العلماء والصالحين، فكان لفيفًا فريدًا من نوادر التصنيف.
