ليس هذا البحث نافلةً من القول ولا ضربًا من الترف الفكري، بل هو بابٌ من أبواب حماية الدين، المتمثلة في صيانةِ مقام الصحابة الكرام عن خوض الخائضين، وسدِّ الذريعة دون ألسنة المشكِّكين والمغرضِين. ذلك أنّ القول بتفضيل عليٍّ أو غيرِه من الصحابة على الشيخين أبي بكرٍ وعمرَ رضيَ الله عنهم أجمعين ـ وإن كان ليس من أصول الاعتقاد التي يُكفَّرُ مخالفُها ـ يقود إلى محاذيرَ منها: محاكمةُ الصحابة في تفاصيل تلك المفاضَلات، والخوضُ في شؤون العدالة والأمانة وما جرى من واقعات، وقد ثبت تاريخيًّا أن بدعة الرفض بدأت من القول بالتفضيل على الشيخين، ومنها تمادى الانحراف. هذا فضلًا عن كون التفضيل على الشيخين مخالفًا لما عليه جماهيرُ أئمة الدين المقتدَى بهم من أهل السنة والجماعة.
وقد جاء هذا الكتاب النافع ليضع الحقّ في نصابه في هذه المسألة، ويؤصِّلها بأدلة القرآن والسنة، وإجماع أهل الملة، ويردّ على المخالف فيها ويكشف شبهاته.
