هذا كتابٌ قيّمٌ جادت به يَراعة الحافظ الكبير شمس الدين السَّخاويّ ـ شامَةِ المحدِّثين مِن أصحاب الحافظ ابن حَجَر العَسْقلانيّ ـ في فضل الرمي وإتقانه، وما وردَ فيه من أحاديث وآثار، وذَكَرَ أعيان رُماة القرون الفاضلة من الصحابة والتابعين وأتباعهم رَضِيَ الله عنهم، مع مسائلَ وفوائدَ متنوِّعة: حديثيةٍ وفقهيةٍ وأدبيةٍ ولغويةٍ وتاريخية، أبانَ فيه عن سَعَة اطّلاع وحُسْنِ تصنيف، فجاء كتابًا حافلًا، حتى قال مؤلفُه في مقدِّمته: «لا أعلمُ مَن سبقني لنظِيره، في كثرة منقوله وحُسْن تقريره، لا يستغني عنه متعلِّمٌ أو عالِم».
وقد قام فريقُنا العلميّ بتقصِّي نُسَخ الكتاب الخطّية الأخرَى سوى التي اعتمدها المحقق الكريم، فظفر بنسخةِ المؤلف التي بخطِّه! فقابلنا الكتابَ عليها، وأعَدْنا تصحيحَه، وراجَعْنا تعليقاتِه، وحرّرْناهُ تحريرًا شاملًا، وضبَطْناهُ بالشكْل اللازم، ولا سيّما الغريبَ والشعر، ثم أخرَجْناه إخراجًا فنيًّا أنيقًا، وألحقنا به فهارسَ شاملةً تقرِّب مخبَّآته لقرّائه، حتى جاء في هذه الهيئة الجميلة بحمد الله تعالى.
