تعد السيميولوجيا علم الدوال اللسانية وغير اللسانية، تدرس العلامات النصية والإشارات والرموز والأيقونات البصرية، كما تستند السيميولوجيا منهجيًا إلى عمليتي التفكيك والتركيب، والمستوى الدلالي وهو نظام إجرائي يحدد عملية الانتقال من قيمة إلى أخرى ويبرز القيم الأساسية والتشاكل الدلالي.
فالسيميولوجيا تدرس الدوال على اتجاهين التواصل والدلالة، فالأول: يربط الدليل بالمدلول والوظيفة القصدية، والآخر: يربط الدليل بالمدلول أو المعنى، أي تهتم بالدال والمدلول، والدلالة، وهي ثلاثية دي سوسير، فلا معنى للفصل بين التواصل والدلالة، فالبحث في الأنساق الدالة، هو بحث في الدلالات التي يتم توصيلها إلى الإنسان بشكل واعٍ، أو بشكل غير واعٍ.
ويجدر بنا الإشارة إلى أنه لا يمكن الفصل بين العلامات اللغوية وغير اللغوية، لأنهما يكملان بعضهما، فكل واحدة تعبر عن الأخرى، من خلال الألفاظ، وإلا كيف يمكننا التعبير عنهما، فلا بدَّ من اللجوء إليهما، فالدلالة غير اللسانية يتم النظر إليها ولنسقها وأشكال تجليها من خلال الحدود التي يوفرها النموذج اللساني ذاته، فهذه الوقائع غير اللسانية شبيهة من حيث الجوهر التواصلي والبعد التداولي بالوقائع اللسانية، وما يصدق على اللسان يصدق عليها، وتعد سندًا لإنتاج الدلالات، ومحكومة في وجودها، شأنها شأن اللسان، بمبدأ الاعتباطية، وهذا ما اشترطه "دي سوسير" للولوج إلى أعماق الدلالة وصولاً إلى المعنى الجديد، وكما يقول بيرس: كلُّ شيء يمكن أن يكون علامة، بشرط أن يحيل إلى شيء آخر.
فالديوان الذي موضوع الدراسة بالرغم من أنه أول أعمال الشاعرة، إلا أننا نجد عمقًا في ألفاظها، تراكيبها، فالأفكار المطروحة لا تؤول إلا بعد تفكير عميق، تصحبك الشاعر في غابات عميقة تلوح عن الأمان، وجب عليك الوصول إليه، لكن بعد جهد في خوض غمار الديوان، لها بصماتها الخاصة، ما إن قرأت تدرك لمن تقرأ، الرمزية تجعل الخيال يتجاوز الحدود للامساك بخيوط الفِكَر المطروحة، فالديوان زخي، وعلاماتها غير اللسانية أَعْطاه زَخْمًا وزاده قوّةً.
