كتابنا هذا يحتوي على مقدمة واحدة و بابين.أما المقدمة فعلى أربعة فصول،الأول في بيان تعريف علم العروض و موضوعه و غايته و غرضه و وجه تسميته باسمه،و الثاني في بيان أقسام الوزن و قسمي الكتابة و الثالث فى الحروف التي تزاد و تنقص فى الكتابة العروضية، و الرابع في بيان الحروف و المقاطع و التفاعيل،و أما البابان فالباب الأول ففيه فصلان الفصل الأول فى الزحاف و الثاني فى العلة و الباب الثاني في بيان البحور.
