الحَمدُ للِّهِ وحدَهُ على ما علَّمَ من بيانٍ وألهَمَ من تبيانٍ ما لاحَ بدرٌ للعَيانِ، أَحمدُه علَى فَواضِلِ النَّعمَاءِ وتَتابعِ الآلاءِ، والصَّلاةُ والسَّلامُ على مَن لا نَبي بعدَه، وآلهِ الطَّاهِرينَ، الغُرِّ المَيَامِينَ، صِراطِ رَبِّ العَالمِينَ، وسلَّمَ تسلِيمًا وبَعدُ :
مَا بينَ يَديكَ يا أَعزَّكَ اللَّهُ كتابٌ مَا صنَّفَت يراعَةُ أَحَدٍ من قَبلِه علَى شَاكلَتِهِ، فكانَ الأَولَ في نوعِهِ ،الأَسبقَ فِي وضعِهِ، والَّذي دَعانِي إِلى تَأليفِهِ، هو أَنَّني رأَيتُ حاجةً عندَ من اهتمَّ بنظمِ الشِّعرِ فيَسَّرتُ عليهِ بفضلِ اللَّهِ تعالى ومَنِّهِ اختيارَ قوافِيهِ، لَذا أَسميتُهُ (المعجم الشافي لكاتب القوافي) وإِنِّي لأَرجو أَلَّا أَكونَ قَد قصَّرتُ في هَذا السَّبيل الذي ورَدتُه، والهَدَف الذي أَردتُه، فتَجنَّبتُ الإِيجازَ المُخل والإِطنابَ المُمِل، سائلًا العَليَّ القَدير أَن ينفعَ بهِ أَهلَ الشِّعرِ والأَدبِ وعلَى اللَّهِ أَعتمِدُ وبه أَعتضِدُ، عليهِ توكَّلتُ، هو نِعمَ المُعين.
