كانت الصلاة ولم تزل عماد الدين وغرة الطاعات، والطريق الموصل إلى جنة رب الخلائق والبريات، فهي الفارق بين المؤمن والكافر، وهي أعظم أركان الإسلام بعد الشهادتين، وأول ما يحاسب عليه العبد فإن صلحت صلح عمله وإن فسدت فسد سائر عمله، وهي تنهي عن الفحشاء والمنكر وتغسل الخطايا وتكفر السيئات، ويرفع الله بها الدرجات ويحط الخطايا، وتصلي الملائكة على صاحبها ما دام مصلاه. ولذلك لم يختلف المسلمون أن ترك الصلاة المفروضة عمداً من أعظم الذنوب وأكبر الكبائر، وأن إثمها عند الله أعظم من إثم قتل النفس وأخذ الأموال، وأن تاركها متعرض لعقوبة الله وسخطه وخزيه في الدنيا والآخرة. وقد عرض المؤلف في هذا الكتاب بعض الأحكام التي تباينت فيها آراء العلماء حول الصلاة: كحكم تارك الصلاة، وتارة صلاة الجمعة، ومتى يقتل التارك، وبكم يقتل، ثم هل يقتل حداً أم كفراً وغير ذلك من الأحكام
