هل سنّته إلى يوم الدين. أمّا بعد: فإنّ الدرس الدلاليّ من الأمور المهمّة التي شغلت العقل الإنسانيّ مبكّرا ولم يكن العرب المسلمون في معزل عن هذا الاهتمام، ثمّ صار في العصر الحديث بفضل الدراسات الألسنيّة علما مستقلا بذاته، ومن الأهداف التي توخاها البحث: 1- التعريف بعلم الدلالة، وتتبّع جذوره في التراث العربيّ الإسلاميّ. 2- إبراز الأثر الإسلاميّ في تطوّر الدلالات، وما أثرى به اللغة العربيّة من رصيد لغويّ كبير. 3- بيان ما قام به علماء العصر الحديث من تأصيل لعلم الدلالة، وما وضعوه له من القواعد، والأسس. 4- دراسة النظريّات الدلاليّة الحديثة، وبيان ما لها، وما عليها.
