يتناول هذا الكتاب(وصية أمير) وصية خالدة كتبها أميرٌ لأمير، ودوَّنها أبٌ لابنه بعد أن عيَّنَ الخليفة العباسي المأمون هذا الابنَ أميراً وقلّده شرف المسؤولية، وحين اطلع المأمون على هذه الوصية قال: ما بقّى طاهر شيئاً من أمر الدين والدنيا، والتدبير والأمن والسياسة، وإصلاح المُلْك والرعية، وحفظ السلطان وطاعة الخلفاء وتقويم الخلافة، إلا وقد أحكمه وأوصى به.
