جورج شحاتة قنواتي: راهِبٌ ومفكِّرٌ مِصري، ومِن روَّادِ الفكرِ في الوطنِ العربي، له إسهاماتٌ في الطبِّ والفلسفةِ واللاهوت.
وُلِدَ الأبُ جورج شحاتة قنواتي بالإسكندريةِ عامَ ١٩٠٥م، وأتمَّ دراستَه الثانويةَ بمدارسِ الفرير، ودرَسَ الصيدلةَ بجامعةِ اليسوعيِّينَ ببيروت، والكيمياءَ بجامعةِ ليون بفرنسا، ثم عادَ إلى الإسكندريةِ عامَ ١٩٢٩م، ومارَسَ الصيدلةَ والكيمياءَ لعدةِ سنوات، ثم الْتَحقَ بجامعةِ الدومنيكان ببلجيكا وفرنسا، وتخصَّصَ في الفلسفةِ واللاهوتِ وحصَلَ على الدكتوراه فيهما ثم عادَ إلى مِصر، وعمِلَ بديرِ الآباءِ الدومنيكان، ثم أصبَحَ مُديرًا لمعهدِ الدراساتِ الشرقيَّةِ بالدير، ورئيسَ تحريرِ مجلةِ المعهدِ كاتبًا ومُشرِفًا ومُدقِّقًا لمُحْتواها.
كانَ الأبُ قنواتي عضوًا في العديدِ مِنَ اللِّجانِ العلميةِ داخلَ مصرَ وخارجَها، ومُحاضِرًا بالعديدِ مِنَ الجامعاتِ الأوربيَّةِ والعربيَّة، وقد تعلَّقَتْ جلُّ مُحاضَراتِه بالسَّلامِ وحِوارِ الأديان. ترأَّسَ عدةَ لجانٍ عِلْميَّة، منها: لجنةُ الفلسفةِ والاجتماعِ بالمجلسِ الأعلى للثقافة، ولجنةُ تحقيقِ «كتابِ الشفاءِ» لابنِ سينا وكُتبِ ابنِ رُشْد، كما أوفَدَتْه الإدارةُ الثقافيةُ بجامعةِ الدولِ العربيةِ والمنظمةُ العربيةُ للتربيةِ والثقافةِ والعلومِ للبحثِ في مخطوطاتِ ابنِ سينا وابنِ رُشْد.
له العديدُ مِن المُؤلَّفاتِ البالغةِ الأهمية، منها: كتابُ «مُؤلَّفات ابنِ سينا»، و«مُؤلَّفات ابنِ رُشْد»، و«تاريخ الصيدلةِ والعقاقيرِ عندَ العرب»، و«المسيحيون في مِصر»، و«المَسيحيَّة والحضارة العربيَّة».
تُوفِّيَ عامَ ١٩٩٤م.

مِشوارٌ طويلٌ نحوَ التطور، امتدَّ لبضعةِ آلافٍ مِن السنين، قطعَتْه علومُ الطبِّ والصيدلةِ والتَّداوِي بالعقاقيرِ حتى تصِلَ إلى ما هيَ عليهِ اليومَ من تقدُّمٍ كبيرٍ في مجالِ مقاومةِ المرضِ وعلاجِه؛ فبعدَ أنْ كانَ العلاجُ بأعشابٍ يتلو عليها ساحرٌ تعاويذَه الغامضة ثم تُقدَّمُ للمريضِ فتزيدُ من آلامِه، أصبحَ بجهودِ العلماءِ المخلصينَ في صورةِ حبوبٍ صغيرةٍ يبتلِعُها المريضُ على فترات، ليبدأَ سِحرٌ من نوعٍ آخَر، هو سِحرُ العلمِ الحقيقيِّ وكيميائِه الحيويَّة. والكثيرُ مِنَ التُّراثِ الصيدليِّ والطبيِّ الذي ترَكَه الأجدادُ الفَراعِنةُ وكذلكَ العربُ في عصْرِهم الذَّهَبي يحتوي على تِقْنياتٍ ووصفاتٍ طبيةٍ ناجحةٍ تُستخدَمُ إلى الآن بعدَ تطويرِها. ويُقدِّمُ هذا الكتابُ للقارئِ المهتمِّ بالصيدلةِ والتطبيبِ توثيقًا لتاريخِ تطوُّرِ هذه العلوم.
