ينَما يَمضي فَنُّ السِّينما إلى القَرنِ الثَّاني مِن عُمرِه، يَتجاوزُ صُنَّاعُ الأفلامِ الحُدودَ القوميةَ؛ فقد أصبحتِ الأفلامُ السِّينمائيةُ ذاتَ طبيعةٍ عالَمِيةٍ على نَحوٍ لم يَسبِقْ لهُ مَثِيل. ويَستعرِضُ هذا الكِتابُ القُوى المُعقَّدةَ والمُتداخلةَ التي تَقفُ وَراءَ صناعةِ السِّينما في جميعِ أنحاءِ العالَمِ باستخدامِ مفهومِ الأنواعِ السِّينمائيَّةِ الشَّهِيرِ لشَرحِ موضوعِ السِّينما العالَميةِ لطُلابِ السِّينما، ويُعَدُّ إطارَ عملٍ قويًّا يُتيحُ لهمُ اكتسابَ فهمٍ أعمقَ للقضايا الرَّئيسيَّةِ التي تَنطبقُ على كُلِّ الأفلامِ حولَ العالَم. يُوضِّحُ الكتابُ المَفاهِيمَ والمُفرَداتِ الرئيسيةَ لفَهْمِ أيِّ فيلمٍ بِوصفهِ شكلًا فنيًّا، وتِقْنية، وعملًا تجاريًّا، وفهرسًا ثقافيًّا، ومقياسًا اجتماعيًّا، وقُوةً سياسية. كذلك يُقدِّمُ دِراساتِ حالةٍ تُتيحُ للطُّلابِ التَّركيزَ على أفلامٍ مُهمَّةٍ ومُتاحةٍ للجميعِ تُجسِّدُ تقاليدَ واتِّجاهاتٍ أساسيَّة. إنَّ هذا الكِتابَ نَصٌّ لا غِنَى عنهُ في مُقرَّراتِ دِراسةِ السِّينما العالَمِية والأنواعِ السِّينمائِية، بأسلوبِه البسيطِ وتنظيمِه الجذَّاب.
