شهد عقد الثمانينات في مصر ظهور نشاط توظيف الأموال، لما إتسم به هذا العقد من إنخفاض أسعار الفائدة بالجهاز المصرفي، وإرتفاع أسعار الذهب، وركود السُوق العقاري، فضلاً عن ركود إقتصادى بصفة عامة، لضعف أوجُه الإستثمار. وقد كانت تلك الظروف الإقتصادية مناخاً مُناسباً لظهور هذا النشاط، الذى إجتذب السواد الأعظم من رؤوس الأموال المتوسطة والصغيرة والمُدخرات، نظير عائد شهرى أو سنوى تجاوز أحياناً 3 % شهرياً، وقد إستظل القائمين على هذا النشاط تحت عباءة الدين والأرباح الإسلامية.
