فهذا الكتاب اختصار موجز وضعت فيه قبسات مختارة أخذتها من كتاب «فتح الباري بشرح صحيح البخاري» للحافظ أحمد بن على بن حجر العسقلاني , ومما دفعني إلى هذا العمل هو كثرة الإقبال على هذا الكتاب الذي هو «قاموس السُنّة» فهو بحق لا غنى لعالم ولا طالب علم عنه , ولكن نظرًا لكبر حجمه الذي يصل إلى نحو خمسة عشرا مُجلداً , والذي يجد طالب العلم فيه بعض المشقة في البحث عن مسألة ما، فضلاً عن طالب علم مبتدئ فقد يتوه بين سطوره وكلماته وقد يرى مشقة في البحث في بحاره واستخراج كنوزه ودُرره , كل هذا دفعني إلى اختصار هذا الكتاب فأخذت منه ما يشفي الصدور وحذفت منه ما تطول به السطور , وما قد يستغنى عنه طالب العلم المبتدئ , وما ييُسر على الدعاة من التقاط العناصر المهمة والفوائد الجمّة , مما يوفر لهم الوقت والجهد
