حين كانت تزورنا صحبة والديها وهى طفلة، كانت تجلس صامتة: أسألها حتى عن اسمها فلا تجيب، وأداعبها فلا تستجيب. عندئذ ألجأ إلى استفزازها فأقول لها: وإذن فأنت لا تسمعين! فتبتسم لكنها لا تنطق. أسأل والديها: هل سمع «مي» بخير، فيؤكدان لي أنه بخير، فأتحول إليها متحديا ولائما: وإذن فأنت تعرفيننى، وتسمعين أسئلتى، وتفهمين عنى .. آه يا «مكارة»!! ومع ذلك تنتهى زيارتهم لنا وتغادرنا «مي» صامتة كما دخلت علينا.
