تمثل الشوارع التجارية الرئيسية أحدي الظواهر الحضرية الهامة بالمدينة، واحدي أنماط التركيب التجاري الداخلي للمدن، والتي تعكس استخدامات الأراضي داخل المدن، كما أنها تمثل أحدي أهم العوامل المؤثرة في الحياة العمرانية والسكانية بالمدينة، واحد أهم العناصر التخطيطية التي ارتبطت بالسكان في المدينة، وتعتبر مدخلاً هاماً في تخطيط التركيب التجاري للمدينة كأحد العناصر الهامة التي ارتكز عليها مخططو المدن، ونتيجة للطبيعة الدينية للمدينة المنورة والتي أدت إلي الطبيعة الخاصة للمنطقة المركزية بالمدينة واعتماد السكان علي تلك الشوارع بصورة كبيرة، بما دفع بتلك الشوارع أن تكون أكثر جاذبية لسكان المدينة بالمقارنة بالأنماط التسويقية الاخري، ويدفع بضرورة إلقاء الضوء عليها وإعادة تقويم هذا النظام الحضري للقيام بدوره بصورة ناجحة.
