يعد جبل عَيْر ثاني أشهر جبال المدينة المنورة بعد جبل أحد، فقد ورد ذكره في الحديث الشريف "المدينة حرم من عير إلى ثور وبين لابتيها(2)"، ويعد جبل عير الحد الجنوبي للحرم النبوي الشريف كما يجاوره ميقات ذي الحليفة من جهة الشمال الغربي. ومن الناحية الطبيعية فقد ظل جبل عير بعيدا عن اهتمام الجغرافيين على الرغم من أهميته الدينية والجغرافية.
