ومدينة الغردقة قطب التنمية الرئيسى للاقليم، ففضلا عن كونها حاضرة الاقليم (69224 نسمة فى يناير 2002) فهى مركز التنمية السياحية الأول، إذ تستأثر بأغلب الفنادق والعمالة السياحية والسائحين والخدمات السياحية، اذ توجد بها 328 كيلو مترا من الطرق المرصوفة تشكل 14.5% من جملة الطرق بحضر المحافظة، و23500 خطا تليفونيا بنسبة 53.9% من جملة الخطوط بمدن المحافظة، ويوجد بها أيضا أربعة مكاتب بريد من جملة ثمانية عشر مكتبا بريديا بحضر المحافظة، كما يوجد بها 38 شركة سياحية عاملة حتى اكتوبر 2002(1).
