تولى عباس الأول أريكة الحكم في مصر في 24 نوفمبر 1848 على أثر وفاه عمه إبراهيم باشا وفي حياه جده محمد على باشا الذي كان مازال أسير المرض وظل عباس في الحكم إلي ان توفى في 14 يوليو 1854 أي أن مدة حكمة إستمرت خمس سنوات وأربع أشهر وواحدا وعشرين يوما ورغم قصر هذه المدة فقد حدثت تغيرات كثيرة مضطربه في حكم مصر.
