تَمْتَلِئُ العديدُ من الكُهوفِ والمغاوِرِ ب «الصواعد والنوازل .» تُسمى التكويناتُ التي تَتَدَلّ من السقفِ «النوازل »، وتصنعُها المياهُ المتسَبةُ من الشُقوقِ، وتكونُ على شكْلِ إِبَرٍ مَخْروطيةٍ غليظةٍ يرْتكزُ بعضُها على الأَرْضِ كجُذوعِ الأشَجارِ. هذه المياهُ غَنيَّةٌ بمادةٍ معدنيةٍ تُسمى )الكلْسيت(. عندما تجفُّ، تلتصِقُ بسقف المغارةِ، ثم يت ربُ ماءٌ جديدٌ، يجفُّ هو الآخرُ تاركًا المزيد س منها. يَحْدُثُ الشيءُ ذاتَهُ في أَرْضِ المغاوِرِ. ولكن بالعكس. تتساقطُ قطراتُ المياهِ على الأَرضِ، ثم تجفُّ تاركةً مادة «الكلْسيت » الموجودة فيها، حتى ينمو منها مخروطٌ، فتُسمى هذه التكويناتُ ب «الصواعد .» يحدثُ أَحيانًا، أَن يصبَّ المخروطُ النازلُ ماءَهُ على المخروطِ الصاعدِ. وهنا ينمو الإِثنان شيْئًا فشيْئًا حتى يلتقيَ طرفاهما.
