يعد « كتاب شرح التلقين » ، للإمام العلامة « أبي عبد الله محمد بن علي بن عمر التميمي المازَري المالكي(ت536هـ) » ، من أوسع وأشهر وأنفع الشروح التي وُضعت على كتاب "التلقين" لحافظ المذهب المالكي بالعراق " القاضي عبد الوهاب بن نصر البغدادي(ت422هـ) " ، والشرح لا يقل أهمية عن الأصل المشروح بالنظر إلى كون صاحبه بلغ مرتبة عالية في الفقه وأصوله ومناهج الخلاف إلى جانب مشاركته في علوم أخرى كالحديث والعقائد وعلم الكلام، والطب والحكمة، والأدب، مما أهله لأن يكون إمامَ عصره بلا منازع وإليه المفزع في المشكلات . وكتاب شرح التلقين كتاب مفرد في طريقته. نوه به أهل عصره وعرف بمنزلته في الفقه المالكي حذاق المذهب وأئمته. إذ هو نتاج الإمامين الجليلين القاضي أبي محمد عبد الوهاب صاحب المتن الذي ختم مدرسة العراق في الفقه المالكي. والإمام أبي عبد الله المازري الذي شرحه. وهو وإن ظهر فقهه بالمهدية إلا أنه يعتبر وارث المدرسة القيروانية. فاجتمع في هذا الكتاب المنهج العراقي بالمنهج القيرواني في كتاب واحد. كما اجتمع المنهجان من قبل في شرح القاضي عبد الوهاب على رسالة الشيخ أبي محمد بن أبي زيد القيرواني. وهذا الكتاب يعلم الناظر فيه طريقة التفقه، ويأخذ بيده لربط الحكم الفرعي بأصله. فهو يفتح لك منافذ لمجاوزة التقليد. ويربي الناظر فيه على الإنصاف والبعد عن التعصب للمذاهب، وأن دين الله يجب أن يكون أعظم في النفوس من أن يكون تابعاً لرأي عالم واحد مهما سما مقامه، ودق فهمه واتسع علمه. لذا توسع الإمام المازري في إملاء مسائله ودلائله.
