أبو محمد عبد الملك ابن هشام بن أيوب الحميري، كاتب سير ومؤرخ بصري. كما كان عالماً بالأنساب واللغة وأخبار العرب. عاصر ابن هشام الشافعي والتقى به في مصر.
هذب السيرة النبوية ، وسمعها من زياد البكائي صاحب ابن إسحاق ، وخفف من أشعارها ، وروى فيها مواضع عن عبد الوارث بن سعيد ، وأبي عبيدة . رواها عنه محمد بن حسن القطان ، وعبد الرحيم بن عبد الله بن البرقي ، وأخوه أحمد بن البرقي . وله مصنف في أنساب حمير وملوك أبو محمد عبد الملك ابن هشام بن أيوب الحميري، كاتب سير ومؤرخ بصري. كما كان عالماً بالأنساب واللغة وأخبار العرب. عاصر ابن هشام الشافعي والتقى به في مصر.

والأصح أنه ذهلي كما ذكره أبو سعيد بن يونس ، وأرخ وفاته في ثالث عشر ربيع الآخر سنة ثمان عشرة ومائتين .

هو كتاب في السيرة النبوية للنبي محمد رسول الإسلام، ويعد من أهم كتب السيرة النبوية ومصادرها الرئيسية، وهو كتاب لأبي محمد عبد الملك بن هشام بن أيوب الحميري البصري المتوفي سنة (218هـ)، يرويه عن محمد بن إسحاق (ت:151 هـ)، بعد أن أخذ إجازة روايته من زياد بن عبد الله البكائي (ت: 183 هـ)، وقد أجرى ابن هشام علي ابن إسحاق بعض التعديلات إضافةً وحذفًا، حيث قام بتهذيبها، وحذف ابن هشام كثيرًا من قصص الإسرائيليات، والأشعار المنتحلة حتى عرفت السيرة باسم ابن هشام، واهتم بها الباحثون، وأُلِفت عليها العديد من الشروحات والمختصرات.
