الكتاب عبارة عن رواية حديثة... تلك المدينة الغافية على ضفاف الفرات.. لم تكن غافية تلك الليلة، مغمضة العينين فقط!، وهل ينام من به ألم؟! لم تعد ضفاف الفرات تزدان بأشجار الغرب والصفصاف غرقت تلك الرمال التي كان يسهر عليها الشباب مع ضوء القمر ورائحة الشواء تفوح مع الدخان المتصاعد من (سكف) سمك الكطان. ويكمل المؤلف : ذهبت الليالى الملاح وغاب معها لحن (المطبك)، لم تعد أنامل (أبو زيدان) تداعبه تذوب بالروح مع ضربات (بدر الياس) على الطبل ًلتخرج أنغاما مع انسياب الفرات من خلال وصوت (عبد القادر عيفان) ينساب شجيا شط (قليع). استطاع عادل الهاشمي رسم وتشكيل الواقعية الجدلية لأحداث بلاد الرافدين متخيلا بلدته "حديثة" مهد الأحداث ،عليها تحركت شخوص الرواية وفيها كتب المؤلف أحداث روايته لناس عاش وتعايش معهم وآخرون رحلوا عن عالمنا، حصر المؤلف الأحداث في ثمان فصول سجل فيهم أحداث الرواية " أنين النواعير، ذات صباح في حديثة، أنت لن تدوم لي، أخاف الذكريات، ألقت البكاء، لماذا تعتقلون زوجتي، الفضيحة الكبيرة، ليلة القبض على الضحية"
