فهذا الكتاب " مدارج الأشراف في ذكر فضل ونسب من حل سمهود من الأشراف " وهو من الكتب الهامة للعلامة المؤرخ محمد بن محمد بن حامد المراغي ، وقد اعتنى فيه مؤلفه بحصر وترجمة أسماء من اشترك في نسبهم في الإمام الحسن بن على بن أبى طالب ، ممن كانت منازلهم في سمهود أو في جرجا أو في المنشاة أو في أخميم من بلدان صعيد مصر ، واشتراكهم في النسب إلى موطنهم الأصلة " سمهود " , وهؤلاء الأعلام الذين ترجم لهم المراغي ليس لأجل النسب والرباط الأسرى بينه وبينهم وحسب ، وإنما لأنهم من المشاهير والأعيان والعلماء وذوى المناصب والجاه .
