يدور هذا الكتاب حول مسألة جواز إثبات الشهور الإسلامية وخاصة شهر رمضان اعتماداً على الحسابات الفلكية. وهذه المسألة ما زالت موضع نقاش واختلاف بين العلماء، وبين العامة على السواء. حيث ينقسم العلماء فيها إلى فريقين: فريق لا يجد بأساً من استخدام الحسابات الفلكية، بل ويرى أنها الأقرب لمراد الله تعالى، وفريق يقطع بحرمة استخدام الحسابات الفلكية، ويرى أن استخدامها ينافي نصوص القرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية. غير أن المفلت للنظر هنا أن الفريقين يتحاجان بذات الأدلة من الكتاب والسنة، كل لإثبات رأيه. لذلك رصد المؤلف الأدلة المقدمة من الطرفين، ودرسها دراسة عميقة، وحللها، وفند حجج الفريقين، ثم خلص إلى جواز استخدام الحسابات الفلكية في إثبات الشهور الإسلامية استناداً من الأدلة الشرعية، وأن تلك الحسابات هي الطريقة المثلى التي يمكن من خلالها تحقيق مراد الشارع الحكيم في البدء بالشهور الإسلامية على وجه الدقة واليقين.
