الشدياق (1219 - 1304 هـ = 1804 - 1887 م)
أحمد فارس بن يوسف بن منصور الشدياق
• عالم باللغة والأدب.
• ولد في قرية عشقوت (بلبنان) وأبواه مسيحيان مارونيان سمياه فارسا.
• ورحل إلى مصر فتلقى الأدب عن علمائها.
• ورحل إلى مالطة فأدار فيها أعمال المطبعة الأميركانية. وتنقل في أوربا.
• ثم سافر إلى تونس فاعتنق فيها الدين الإسلامي وتسمى (أحمد فارس)
• فدعي إلى الآستانة فأقام بضع سنوات، ثم أصدر بها جريدة (الجوائب) سنة 1277 هـ فعاشت 23 سنة.
• وتوفي بالآستانة، ونقل جثمانه إلى لبنان.
من آثاره
• (كنز الرغائب في منتخبات الجوائب - ط) سبع مجلدات، اختارها ابنه سليم من مقالاته في الجوائب
• (سر الليال في القلب والإبدال) في اللغة، جزآن، طبع الأول منهما
• (الواسطة في أحوال مالطة - ط)
• (كشف المخبا عن فنون أوربا - ط)
• (الجاسوس على القاموس - ط)
• (اللفيف في كل معنى طريف - ط)
• (الساق على الساق في ما هو الفارياق - ط)
• (غنية الطالب - ط)
• (الباكورة الشهية في نحو اللغة الإنكليزية - ط)
• (سند الراوي في الصرف الفرنساوي - ط)
وله عدة كتب لم تزل مخطوطة، منها:
• (ديوان شعره) يشتمل على اثنين وعشرين ألف بيت، طبع نحو ربعه في الجزء الثالث من (كنز الرغائب)، وفي شعره رقة وحسن انسجام
• (المرآة في عكس التوراة)
• كتاب في (تراجم الرجال)
• (التقنيع في علم البديع - خ) في شستربتي (4099)
