• ولد في المدينة المنورة بالمملكة العربية السعودية.
• حصل على البكالوريوس من كلية التجارة بجامعة الملك سعود بالرياض عام 1963.
• تلقى تعليمه العالي في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية فحصل على شهادة الماجستير في الإدارة من جامعة منيسوتا عام 1966، ثم حصل على شهادة الدكتوراه في الإدارة العامة من الجامعة الأمريكية بواشنطن في مطلع عام 1970.
• تدرج في السلك الأكاديمي فحصل على درجة أستاذ عام 1979.
• عمل عميداً لكلية التجارة , وكلية العلوم الاجتماعية , وكلية الدراسات العليا، مستشار في عدة هيئات علمية, وعضو في هيئة تحرير المجلة العربية للإدارة, ومجلة العلوم الاجتماعية.
• له العديد من المؤلفات والدواوين الشعرية.

حظي موضوع الاستهلاك باهتمام كبير من قبل الباحثين في أكثر من علم من العلوم الاجتماعية , وهو ما يعبر عن مدي أهمية الموضوع , فلقد كان الاستهلاك وفقاً لتعبير احد الباحثين الأرضية التي اجتمع عليها باحثون من تخصصات مختلفة , تقع ما بين علم الاجتماع إلي علم الاقتصاد إلي علم النفس والانثربولوجيا , حتي أنه أتاح الفرصة للالتقاء بين علماء لم يكن يجمعهم سابقاً أي اهتمام مشترك , مثل علماء الاجتماع والأجناس والاهتمام الأكبر كان في نطاق علم الاقتصاد , فالاستهلاك ظاهرة أو عملية ذات طابع اقتصادي في المقام الأول وهذا , يدلل علي أهمية العملية ذاتها , وما يرتبط بها من قضايا, بعضها اقتصادي والبعض الآخر ذو صبغة اجتماعية مثل المستوي الاجتماعي الاقتصادي ,وقد عبر أحد الباحثين عن مركزية موضوع الاستهلاك وأهميته في العلوم الحديثة بقوله أن الدراسات في موضوع الاستهلاك والجديرة بالعناية , أكثر من أن تحصي من قبل باحث واحد أو حتي مجموعة من الباحثين .
