تدور رواية "امرأة من القاهرة" حول علاقة حميمة بين أسرتين إحداهما مصرية هي أسرة سري باشا مستشار القصر في عهد الملك فؤاد والملك فاروق وأسرة مستر هولت البريطاني الجنسية والمقيم في القاهرة, والتي أسفرت عن زواج سيرين بنت سري باشا وجريج ابن مستر هولت رغم علاقة الحب التي كانت تربط بين سيرين ومارك الابن الأكبر لمستر هولت, وترصد لنا الرواية أهم الأحداث التي جرت في مصـر وخاصة في القاهرة في الفترة من 1919 حتى عام 1953 والتي تتناول تفاصيل مثيرة في حياة القصـر في فترتي فؤاد وفاروق، بالإضافة إلى تفاصيل العلاقة العاطفية بين مارك وسيرين وما نتج عنها من أحداث شائقة, وكذلك ما رصدته الرواية من أحداث الحرب العالمية الثانية وما دار في العلمين وموقف مصر الدقيق في هذه المرحلة, وكذلك الصور الواقعية التي كانت سائدة في مصر في ذلك الوقت من حياة قاسية وظروف صعبة مر بها الشعب المصري, وتربط القصة بخيط مثير بين شعور الشعب المصري تجاه الانجليز والدور الوطني الذي قام به سعد زغلول ورفاقه وعبد الناصر ورفاقه وكذلك موقف الإخوان المسلمين حتى عام 1953.ولما تحويه الرواية من أحداث ممتعة وحقائق مذهلة وتفاصيل شائقة عن مصر والمصريين في المقام الأول وعن العلاقات المتشابكة بين أبطالها في المقام الثاني, ولما تعرضه الرواية من وجهة نظر شاهد عيان, حيث إن المؤلف عاش في القاهرة في تلك الفترة، بل وعاش في قلب الأحداث من خلال وظيفته الرسمية, ولما تجسده الرواية من صور تهم كل مصـرى عن تلك الفترة التي دار حولها جدل كثير رأيت ضرورة ترجمة هذه الرواية إلى اللغة العربية لتكون في متناول كل قارئ بلغة الضاد لإسقاط الضوء على هذه الفترة الحساسة من تاريخ مصر.
