عاني ميادين التربية وعلم النفس من الفوضى والاضطراب في وضع المصطلحات Terms والمفاهيم Concepts، مما يؤدي إلى اللبس والغموض وانعدام الفهم أو التفاهم بين الباحث والقارئ أو المحاضر والمستمع فما المقصود مثلاً بالتربية الوطنية، وهل هي مرادفة للتربية القومية أو التربية السياسية؟ وهل هناك فرق بين الثقافة والحضارة والمدنية، أو العقل والنفس، أو الذكاء والقدرة والقابلية والاستعداد، أو القياس والتقييم والتقويم. هل هي مترادفات أم أنها مصطلحات كل منها مستقل تمام الاستقلال عن الآخر؟ هل هي مجرد ألفاظ لغوية متدوالة لا تعبّر تمام التعبير عما في نفوسنا، ألا إذا استعنا بالشرح على إيضاح مقصدنا أو أنها كلمات جوفاء لا تدل على شيء، أم أنها مصطلحات افتراضية لا اتفاق حولها؟ هل لدى المختصين مفهوم موحد لها أم لكل منها مفهومه الخاص؟ وإذا كان الأمر كذلك فكيف يمكن أن نتفق في البحث والتدريس والتأليف والتعريب؟
