إن الغرض من هذا الكتابِ هو: المساعدة في عمليات المسح الجيوفيزيائية على النطاق الأكاديمي، وهو ليس كتاباً دراسياً تقليديِاً كما قدّم المؤلف بل إنه كتاب أكاديمي يَهتمُّ بالأمور العملية أكثر من الأمور النظريةِ، مع الأخذ بعين الاعتبار بأنه لا يتعامل مع المسح الجوي، أو البحري، أو جيوفيزياء الآبار، ولا مع الانعكاسِ السيزمي العميقِ؛ نظراً لمساحته المحدودة، ولأن هذه المسوحات تحتاج إلى فريق كبير للقيام بها. إن هذا الكتاب هو: أول كتاب عربي يهتم بأعمال الحقل (الميداني) بالشكل الذي يستفيد منه كل طالب وباحث على حد سواء، وهذه هي الطبعة الثالثة لهذا الكتاب الذي لقي رواجاً كبيراً بين أصناف المهتمين من المتخصصين في علوم الأرض ولقد ترجم هذا الكتاب في ثلاثة عشر فصلاً كما في الكتاب الأصل تناولت فيه
