أولدس هكسلي: كاتبٌ إنجليزيٌّ شهير، له العديدُ مِنَ الرِّواياتِ والقصصِ القصيرة، وكتَبَ سيناريوهاتٍ لعدَّةِ أفلام.
وُلِدَ «أولدس ليونارد هكسلي» عامَ ١٨٩٤م بإنجلترا، وبدأَ حياتَه الأدبيةَ بكتابةِ الشِّعر، وكتَبَ روايتَهُ الأُولى وهوَ في عُمرِ السابعةَ عَشرة. اهتمَّ هكسلي في كتاباتِه بالقضايا الإنسانية، والتصوُّفِ الفلسفي، ووُصِفَ بأنه مُعادٍ للحُروب.
تُوفِّيَ هكسلي في الثاني والعشرين من نوفمبر عامَ ١٩٦٣م.

في أحد فصول الكتاب يوضح هكسلي أن الحرب ظاهرة إنسانية لا وجود لها في عالم الحيوان، لأن الحيوان يتقاتل في إبان الثورة الجنسية أو طلباً للطعام أو لهوا ولعباً في قليل جداً من الأحايين، وليس من الحرب بالبداهة أن يقتل الذئب الشاة أو تلعب الهرة بالفأر، فإنما هذا شبيه بعمل الجزار حين يقتل ما يطعمه الناس، أو شبيه بعمل الصياد حين يتعقب الثعلب والأرنب
