المستشرقون إذا درسوا قضية لا علاقة لها بالإسلام والمسلمين نجدهم ذوي منهج علمي وذوي التزام بالموضوعية والحيدة في الإطار الذي تسمح به القدرة البشرية، أما حين الاقتراب من الدائرة الإسلامية عقيدة أو تطبيقاً فإن مؤثرات مختلفة تتدافع لتنحرف بالمنهج الاستشراقي وتدفع به إلى دوائر اللامنهجية واللاموضوعية، والأمر يشتد إذا تلامست خطوط البحث ودوائره مع التراث العربي والإٍسلامي، ومن هنا كان هذا العمل الذي أقدمه اليوم سيراً في هذا الاتجاه الذي اقتنعت به.لقد فكرت كثيراً في اختيار علم من أعلام الفكر الإسلامي الذي اهتم به المستشرقون كثيراً ليكون النموذج التطبيقي لهذه الدراسة فتمثل أمامي المفكر الإسلامي ابن خلدون.
