يعتقد ماغكولن في دراسته عن باشلار ، بأن الموضوعية التي أسست فكره سنوات (1938-1950)، صاغت وعي هؤلاء النقاد أكثر من الذاتية التي طغت على باشلار/الشيخ إبان فترة عمره الأخيرة (1955-1960)، حينما “بقي محتجزا بين كتبه مثل يونس في بطن الحوت، منقطعا بامتياز عن العالم المعاصر”، لاشك أن مشروع غاستون باشلار، سواء عبر عناوين كتاباته الشعرية أو العلمية، تطلع نحو تأسيس جمالية للخيال الإنساني، من خلال بحثه في طبيعة تمثل هذا الخيال للكون بالشعر أو النظرية العلمية، هكذا تأسست كتابات باشلار وفق محورين كبيرين قد يبدو تعارضهما حد التناقض: إبستمولوجيا تاريخ العلم ثم الخيال الشعري. إلا أن الخيط الرابط بين مجالي التفكيرين يكمن في اهتمام باشلار الكبير بهذه القدرة المبدعة الخلاقة لدى الإنسان.
