الولوج إلى أكوان التصوف الإسلامي يحتاج إلى علم وعمل وموهبة فطرية يمنحها الله ـ عز وجل ـ لصاحبها، والإمام النووي كان يذكر أن التصوف عماده ثلاثة أركان هي العلم،والزهد،والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر، وألطف ما في التصوف أنه تربية وصقل للأخلاق والآداب السامية، وأعذب ما فيه أنه تجربة غير قابلة للتكرار أو التشابه بل هي تجربة متفردة متمايزة لا تعرف للاشتراك سبيلاً ولا للمشاركة طريقاً. ومن يلجأ إلى تعرف أحوال ومقامات أهل التصوف عليه أن يخطو بحذر ورفق وهو يرصد ويستقرئ ويتناول مواجيدهم وأحوالهم وأخبارهم ، بعيداً عن ما شاب التصوف من حكايات المتسامرين ونوادر المتعطلين وحجج المتنطعين، وهذا الدخول الحذر في أكوان التصوف والمتصوفة الأجلاء يحتاج إلى قدر كبير وعظيم من الثقة. ثقة بالله أولاً ويخطئ ويجادل من يدعي ليل نهار أنه واثق بالله وأعماله وأحواله لا تشير إلى ذلك، لأن الثقة بالله تشير إلى معان وخصال يجب أن تتجسد في المرء كجزء من تكوينه منها التأدب مع الله سراً وعلانية.
