عديدة هي الكتب التي صدرت عن أندريه بروتون، وعن السوريالية وتاريخها ونشاطاتها بالطبع، والتي لم تتوقف لغاية اليوم، إذ تبدو أنها مستمرة، بشكل أو بآخر، في تقديم مقترحاتها ونظرتها للأشياء المختلفة. في أي حال، ليس هدف هذه الكلمة أن تستعيد، دراسةً، دور الحركة السوريالية، لا في الماضي، ولا في الحاضر، بل هي إشارة عابرة لتقديم هذه الرسائل، التي وُجهت إلى بروتون من شخصين لعبا دورا كبيرا في توجهاته وخياراته الأدبية والفنية، وهما بيير ريفردي وجاك فاشيه. والسؤال الذي لا بدّ من أن يطرح نفسه: كيف مارست التكعيبية نفوذها على شعر ريفردي؟ وبأيّ وسيلة؟ هناك، أولاً، الطرق التي كان يرفضها الفنانون، تلك الطرق التي قالوا عنها إنها "تضرب الروح". ففي كولاجاتهم، لم يستعملوا لا الألوان ولا الريشة ابداً، وإنما بدلاً من هذه المادة، استعملوا عناصر الواقع الأكثر تواضعاً والأكثر يومية: ورق الجرائد، علب الكبريت، مظاريف الرسائل. أي بمعنى آخر، كانوا يستعملون الواقع ذاته. كان ريفردي يحترم هؤلاء الفنانين الذين لديهم "حسّ الواقع حتى النخاع". لذلك رغب في أن يختلس منهم معنى النضارة هذا كما هذا الحس بالفاقة
