يعتقد كثيرون خطأ مقولة المفكر العظيم نيقولا مياكفيلى هو النموذج الأمثل للانتهازية " الغاية تبرر الوسيلة "، وهذا خطأ شاسع فما ذكره ميكافيلى ينطبق على الدولة وليس على الأفراد، وتفضل الدكتور أحمد البغدادى بشرح الالتباس فى فكر مبدأ ميكافيلى فى مقالته بعنوان " ميكافيلى وقيم الدولة " ووضح فكر ميكافيلى أن محبة الناس ليست للحاكم المهمة، بل المهمة الحقيقة للحاكم هى الحفاظ على أمن واستقرار الدولة وبالطبع هناك أن فكرة ميكافيلى فى الانتهازية يتبعها الكثير من الأفراد ويطبقونها تطبيقا خاطئا، فهذه العينة من البشر هم الأشخاص الانتهازيون أصحاب أيدلوجية "الغاية تبرر الوسيلة".
