ويقول محمود علام عن الكتاب:" علم الفيزياء النظرية هو عبارة عن فلسفة عقليَّة ممتعة، متعمِّقة بشكلٍ كاملٍ فى العلوم والاكتشافات البشرية، وما صاحبها من زيادة للوعى البشري، وفهمه لما يحيط به فى الكون. وبسببها، جاءت اكتشافاتٌ عظيمة لظواهر ونظريات حقيقية، هى أغرب من الخيال. وربما لو حكيتها لأحدهم فى عصرٍ قديم بعض الشيء، لأعتبركَ مخرِّفًا ببساطة. خذ عندك "جاليليو" الذى نادى بنظرية "مركزية الشمس"، وأنَّ الكواكب هى التى تدور حولها، وليس العكس، والتى جاء بها نيكولاس كوبرنيكوس من قبله. تلك الأفكار تمَّ رفضها بشدَّة وعنفٍ من جانب السلطة الدينية وكنيسة الفاتيكان فى ذلك الوقت، وواجه الاثنان تسلُّطًا وهجومًا شديدًا وصل لأن يتم اتهامهما بالكفر؛ فتمَّ منع تداول كتب كوبرنيكوس، وحُكم على جاليليو بالهرطقة، ثم خُفِّف الحكم إلى الإقامة الجبرية فيما بعد، ومَنْع تداول أو طباعة كتبه التنويرية.
