ما انفككت أفرقع أصابع يد جدي المتيبِّسة المتصلِّبة – أوردتها بارزة، قشورها تماثل وتناظر قشور السمك. أتأمل سمته بعن ثاقبة أطوف بتلك السراديب والأخاديد والتجاعيد، جسد ذابل قاحل ممتقع، أكل منه الدهر وشرب، طاو للعقود، أكر ما كان يدهشني، هو لون برة جدي البيضاء الناصعة التي لا تضاهي لون أفراد الأسرة، اللون الأبنوسي الأسود الداكن جدًا - لون سالة البازنجر الأفريقية الزنجيَّة، كا لو أنه طاء قاتم عى لوحة خطتها أنامل تشكيلي متشائم عن الموت. شعرنا مجعَّد كالقرنفل، شفاهنا غليظة، أنوفنا مفلطحة، أفواهنا عريضة، أسنانا سميكة صفراء أو بنية، هكذا خلقنا رب الأدغال دينقديت الأسود، خلقنا عى هيئته وسمته وملامحه ولونه، شعر جدي ناعم جدًّا، لونه أبيض لكن الملامح زنجية، الأنف والشفاه والأسنان نفسها، زنجي وعربي أو تركي ربما، المهم هو من الجنس الأبيض، هل جامع جدتي شخص أبيض فأنجب هذا الخاسي؟ جدي زنجي وعربي أو مري، شيئان مختلفان
